About the Speaker
2025 Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast
Dr. Sheron C. Patterson is a Dallas-based faith leader and retired pastor of the historic Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, where she led ministries to feed the mind, body and soul.
Her 35-year ministry is built on innovation and change. The author of nine books and countless articles, she has never settled for the status quo. Her work has been taught at the seminary level and in the training of hospital executives and law enforcement leaders.
Dr. Patterson is a sought-after preacher and has graced pulpits from coast-to-coast and in Africa. She also has provided guidance to television viewers in the Dallas area via the “Good Morning Texas” program.
When Covid-19 hit and shelter-in-place orders eliminated jobs, her church opened its doors to provide hot meals to more than 1,000 people each week. As infection rates soared in Dallas’ Black and Brown communities, Hamilton Park became a free testing site, and when a vaccine became available, the church offered a drive-through vaccination method named “Shots on the Lot.”
Dr. Patterson is a long-term survivor of breast cancer. She turned her diagnosis into a Dallas-wide health education initiative. In partnership with Methodist Health System, she created the “Patterson Pledge,” which encouraged women to take responsibility for their health. She raised thousands of dollars to provide free mammograms for low-income women and gathered breast cancer survivors to build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
She holds degrees from Spelman College in Atlanta and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Patterson and her husband, Robert, have been married 40 years and are the parents of two adult children.
